Hi there! I'm Yiqing (Simon) Zhi, a passionate mechanical engineering student at the University of Waterloo with a love for creating innovative and functional designs. I specialize in CAD modeling, engineering analysis, and enjoy turning complex problems into simple, elegant solutions.
When I'm not designing, you can find me exploring new engineering technologies, working on personal projects, or collaborating with teams on challenging mechanical systems. I also enjoy traveling around the world with my friends and parents, and playing sports such as snowboading, basketball, badminton, and cheering passionately for the Toronto Blue Jays - Go Jays Go!

Mechanical Engineering - Formula Electric team
3+ co-op experiences across quality and process engineering
Continuing to innovate and push boundaries in mechanical engineering
📍 Plattsville, Ontario
Investigated customer complaints and tested coated abrasive products to better understand performance issues and process variation. Used Minitab to analyze test results, compare material conditions, and support quality and product development decisions.
📍 Guelph, Ontario
Inspected automotive components using CMM machines, gear analyzers, profile projectors, and contour tracers. Analyzed measurement data in Minitab, completed material testing, and worked with production teams to investigate quality concerns and improve process consistency.
📍 Kitchener, Ontario
Supported process improvements across stamping and tooling operations by combining hands-on production work with data analysis. Developed Excel VBA tools, completed time studies, improved inventory tracking, and helped increase press speed from 50 to 60 strokes per minute.
Designed high-performance CAD models and mechanical systems for next-generation electric race cars with chassis optimization focus.
